Hello, It’s been a while……let’s catch up.
2015 began with a much needed cake detox! Each New Year I promise myself this is the year I will be more healthy and aim for a slimmer me. It always starts well but eventually the cake cravings begin and before I know it I’ve reversed all my good work with crazy cake binge and I give up!
This year though started differently, sure i have indulged in a few sweet treats here and there but I always “get back on the wagon” and carry on. I feel so much better for it and I get to ALMOST have my cake and eat it.
Yes I know you’re in deep shock, I’ve posted more than once in a week…..even I’m impressed with myself.
You can’t really move forward without reviewing what you’ve left behind you, so I thought I’d catch you up on what happened with Little Cake Tin in 2013. Given my lack of posting you may have missed some pretty life changing stuff.
Instagram is one of my favourite social media sites so it made sense to review 2013 using my Instagram pictures….so here goes…..Starting from top to bottom……
Six weeks have passed and now it’s time for the next Chester Clandestine Cake Club, this time the theme was British Tea Party. As soon as I found out the theme I began researching and I was looking forward to the challenge!
My initial thoughts were to do a Rose Garden Cake but rose is not my favourite flavour so I decided to go down the more seasonal route, strawberries came to mind instantly and to give it a twist I added in elderflower.
On Thursday I attended my first Clandestine Cake Club, the theme for this event was to make a cake on a budget (£4 to be exact). It was a tough theme as I’ve never really considered the exact cost of the cakes I bake, this was an eye opener! I knew I wanted to give this recipe a try and the challenge was to try and make it work with the budget, after some tweaking and changing my usual brands for the supermarket own, it worked!
The cake was actually really nice to make and easy too! It tasted lovely and rich with the added mascarpone between the layers. I’ve never baked with poppy seeds before but I will again, they gave a nice earthiness against the tart lemon curd.
Last week I had a lovely surprise to find out that I had won 2 tickets for the Cake and Bake Show in Manchester courtesy of Jen from Blue Kitchen Bake, so I called my friends and we arranged a foodie gathering! One of my friends has recently moved to York so it was the perfect event to meet and catch up.
We arrived early afternoon amongst a sea of excited cake fans, the show was so huge we didn’t know where to begin! One of our first stops was the Gingerbread village, the gingerbread house competition was amazing and it has given me so many ideas for my Christmas gingerbread house project (yes that’s right I’ve already started thinking about Christmas). The show was full of stands demonstrating of sugar craft techniques, baking tutorials and recipe challenges with the Great British Bake Off contestants.
